Axepta

Common use

Axepta (atomoxetine) is essentially used to manage attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children aged 6 years and older, adolescents, and adults. It falls under the category of selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs).

Dosage and direction

Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and duration of Axepta tablet. Take it all in at once. It should not be chewed, crushed, or broken. Axepta tablet can be taken with or without food, however It is best if you take it at the same time every day.

Precautions

Axepta may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience these side effects, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.
Axepta should only be used in pregnancy or during breastfeeding if advised by your doctor. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
Patients with liver disease should exercise caution when taking Axepta. Your doctor may adjust your dose accordingly.

Contraindications

Axepta is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to atomoxetine or any of its ingredients. It is not recommended for people with narrow-angle glaucoma or severe cardiovascular disorders. Those with a rare adrenal gland tumour called pheochromocytoma should also avoid this medicine.

Possible side effect

Side effects of Axepta: Nausea; Dry mouth; Decreased appetite; Insomnia; Fatigue.

Drug interaction

Axepta can interact with MAOIs (such as phenelzine), CYP2D6 inhibitors (such as paroxetine, fluoxetine, and quinidine) and medicines that affect norepinephrine (such as desipramine, duloxetine).

Missed dose

In case of a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Never double up on doses to make up for a missed one.

Overdose

An overdose of Axepta can result in excessive sleepiness or agitation. If you suspect an overdose, it is important to consult your doctor immediately.

Storage

Axepta should be stored at room temperature (below 30°C), away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep dry and away from moisture or dampness, away from children and pets.
